Hoffai Clwb Cefnogwyr y Gweilch croesawu ein hymelwyr a’u chefnogwyr,Rygbi Caerdydd, at San Helen.  Mwynhewch y gêm! The OspreysSupporters Club would like to welcome our visitors Cardiff Rugby and their supporters to Saint Helens!  Enjoy the match!

I sincerely hope that everyone has dried out following last Saturday’s truly tempestuous win versus the Dragons! What a way to return home and 5 tries in the bag, means that we continue to average 5 tries per game! A great start to the season and at the time of writing, we occupy the 7th place in the URC Table!

So on to tonight’s game and let’s hear you St. Helens!

Ymlaen y Gweilch!

OSC News / Newyddion CCG

During the Summer, OSC in association with The Gwalia Singers, Ospreys in the Community and the Ospreys Supporters Choir, organised a  concert at the New Calon Lan Centre in Mynnyddbach Chapel, Treboeth, Swansea. The event was organised to celebrate the connection between this iconic Welsh hymn and the Ospreys Region!

If I might expand own the connection, the lyrics were written by a  Treboeth  man, Daniel James, a member of the chapel, who is buried in the churchyard. Daniel’s portrait can be seen above! The melody (the most familiar version) was written by a Brynhyfryd (Swansea) man, John Hughes, who is buried at Caersalem Chapel, some 800 m from Mynyddbach Chapel. A further regional connection is that Daniel penned the lyrics in Blaengarw, on the Eastern side of the region!  Rumour has it that the words were composed in the Blaengarw Inn and, given what I have heard about Daniel James’ love of a pint, that would seem to be extremely appropriate!

The night was extremely successful, with OSC able to present a cheque to The Calon LanCentre and OITC, for £400 each! We are extremely grateful to both the Gwalia Singers and the Ospreys Supporters Choir, both of whom donated their services without charge!

Also, many thanks to those who supported the event! Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi!

I hope this clarifies the recent promotion of Calon Lan, as we attempt to make CALON LAN OUR ANTHEM! OSC firmly believes that this hymn is our heritage and we are right to adopt it!

With this in mind, a copy of the words  and an English translation, is available below!

Could we respectfully encourage you, if you do not know the hymn to learn it and to let the chorus  reverberate, from all corners of the ground!

For those interested in learning more, OSC has several short videos available on You Tube; just search in the app for OSC Calon Lan and you should have no problem locating and enjoying them!

At just eight years old, Gwennie has recently taken her first steps into the world of contact rugby with the Pontarddulais RFC Under 9s mixed team, and she is thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. What started as an opportunity to try something new, has quickly become a sport she looks forward to each week.

Since joining the team, she has shown tremendous enthusiasm, determination, and a willingness to learn and continues to improve as a result!

Dalwch ati Liogan, Ariana a Gwennie!
