Young Ospreys Win Over Rugby Canada

The Young Ospreys under 16's again raised the bar on their seasons performance in scoring four tries to beat Rugby Canada under 17's by 22 points to 10.

The superb pitch conditions at St Helens, Swansea, certainly helped in encouraging both teams to play attractive rugby. The first twenty minutes was evenly contested although the Young Ospreys did create the better opportunities. Eventually left wing Bryan Barlow crossed in the corner to open the scoring on 20 minutes. A couple of minutes later Rugby Canada captain and outside half Hugh Mcdonell kicked a penalty to leave the scoreline 5 to 3 in favour of the Young Ospreys at the interval. In the second half the Young Ospreys demonstrated their greater experience when they ran in three tries from right wing Bowdy Davies, and replacements full back Tom Prydie (pictured courtesy of www.aosportsphoto.com), and, scrum half Daniel Davies; Prydie converted his own try to open up a 22 points to 3 lead. However, Rugby Canada did not throw the towel in at any stage and were deservedly rewarded with a consolation try from 2nd row forward Shea Wakefield, which was converted by replacement outside half Alan Si. To their credit they were pressurising the Young Osprey try line when referee Nigel Owens brought a conclusion to an excellent game of age grade rugby. Next up for the Young Ospreys will be a stiff test against the much fancied North Wales under 16's at Skewen RFC on Wednesday, December 5th, with an earler than usual KICK OFF TIME OF 5PM.
