Young Ospreys Ready For Cwmtawe 7's

Former WRU 7's coach Gruff Rees will take charge of a Young Ospreys side at the prestigious Cwmtawe 7's tournament this Saturday.

Rees, Skills and Development Coach at the region, has prepared a team for the annual event alongside Conditioning Coach Keith Hollifield.

A popular part of the local pre-season calendar, the Cwmtawe 7’s provide the opportunity for a number of the Ospreys youngsters to test themselves against some of the most respected and established teams on the 7’s circuit.

The Young Ospreys opening game is against Bite Barbarians at 12.50pm, before they face CSG Old Boys at 2.10pm in the hope of securing a knockout fixture.

Gruff Rees said:

"We are always willing participants at the Cwmtawe 7's, it’s a competition and environment that provides a good showcase for our young players and an opportunity for them to challenge themselves against senior opponents.

“It’s always challenging at this time of the year with a number of different programmes and priorities in place for some of these boys, as well as the playing commitments that the players in the group have with our Premiership and Division One clubs, so adapting to a 7's competition is tricky.

“Nevertheless, we will encourage the players to enjoy the day, show their skills and also remember they must work tirelessly in the 7's game, especially as they are representing the Ospreys.

“Ultimately, it provides a greater physical challenge than some will be used to, whilst our core skills will be tested to a good level, and as such we are excited as a group to take up the challenge on offer.”

The Young Ospreys squad has been named as:
