Matthew Jarvis kicked 14 points and Ben John scored a try Wales maintained their winning start in the IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina with a 31-3 victory over Fiji in Parana.
Having beaten Samoa on Saturday, Jarvis put Phil Davies’ side six points to the good with two penalties inside 10 minutes and, though Josh Matavesi popped over Fiji’s only penalty, Wales improved their position courtesy of a try from centre John and a conversion and penalty from Jarvis.
Pontypool’s Morgan Allen - who will join the Ospreys for pre-season - crossed for a try after 24 minutes and, with Fiji down to 13 men with Kolinio Nalasekata and Emosi Ugavule in the bin, Wales took control and led 21-3 at the interval.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first with Wales on top courtesy of an excellent all round effort despite the physical challenge posed by the South Sea islanders.
Jarvis kicked his fourth penalty to improve Wales’ lead and replacement Steve Shingler made sure with a try and conversion in second-half injury time.
Wales play title holders New Zealand in Santa Fe on Sunday in their final Pool encounter.
