Yorkshire Carnegie 32 - 10 Ospreys PS

Despite a strong effort, the young Ospreys couldn't overcome a powerful Carnegie side.

Yorkshire Carnegie proved too strong for the young OspreysPremiership Select side this afternoon as they ran in five tries to the Ospreys single successful attempt.

It wasn't the best  start for the Ospreys Premiership Select  as with just 2 minutes played the home side managed to cross the try line at Headingly, where the game had been moved due to a waterlogged pitch at Huddersfield, back row josh Bainbridge crashing over before Joel Hodgson converted his effort.

A few minutes later their problems were compounded when an early replacement had to be made as Josh Cole suffered a shoulder injury and Bainbridge powered over the try line for a second time. This time however Hodgson was unable to add the extra's.

The tide looked like it was starting to turn a little as the first quarter drew to a close with Joel Matavesi getting the Ospreys on to the scoreboard with a successful penalty kick and the team gaining confidence with their periods of retained possession.

The Ospreys PS failed to convert their efforts into points during this period however, something Yorkshire Carnegie had no problems with as they quickly added two more tries in the next ten minutes when they re-gained control of the ball.

Despite a dogged determination towards the end of the first half, the young Ospreys just couldn't break down the experienced Carnegie back line and the game went into half time:

The Ospreys were finally rewarded for all their efforts early on in the second half when they broke through the home team's defence to score their first try of the afternoon. Joel Matavesi maintaining a 100% record with his kicks as he added to the Ospreys tally.

The try boosted the visitors spirits and they maintained possession well but inexperience cost them as they failed to find the try line again.

A late penalty for Carnegie stretched their lead before the scoring was brought to a close with an unconverted Taylor Prell try.
