Jonathan Humphreys says that the result was a pleasing one, but the Ospreys need to iron out their inconsistencies

Speaking after the win against Cardiff Blues he said:

“I thought that the structure to our game was very good for 60 minutes. We’ve worked hard on our defence and we are very confident in that area at the moment. It’s always difficult in these local derbies to not concede any points at all, especially when you are up against a quality side like the Blues, so we are very pleased with that aspect of the performance, just as we are pleased with the way that we took our three tries. It wasn’t an easy win, we’ve got a few battered bodies in the dressing room

“We’re a little disappointed not to have got the fourth, especially when we had our third with 20 minutes to go, but the game just disintegrated that last 15 minutes or so. There wasn’t any structure to it, which didn’t suit us, and it just faded away at the end. But, we’re happy where we are at the moment, we know that we’ve got a few things to work on and we know that we’ve got some huge games coming up, but we’re pleased with the momentum that we’ve got at the moment.

“The Magners League is a priority for us this year. We feel that we haven’t done ourselves justice in this competition for the last couple of years so we want to be there at the end of the season for the Play-Offs. We’ve got a few games to play yet, but we’re in the right place. This squad is very competitive for places and the boys want to play, but we’re going to have to be prudent with our selections for Ulster next weekend. We’ve got a couple of boys nursing injuries, and there are boys who haven’t played a lot of rugby so it’s a balance of wanting to protect some people, but wanting to go to Ulster to be competitive. We don’t want to go over there and not do this league, or ourselves, justice.

“We felt that December and January were defining months for us. We’ve got some tough games coming up, and we felt that by the time we get to Clermont Auvergne, we need to be in a certain place. All the stepping stones that we put in place ahead of that game, we feel that we are ticking them off week by week, but we still have some areas to work on. We’re still a little inconsistent at the moment, and I feel we could be more clinical at times, but the understanding is getting there so hopefully we’ll be in pretty decent shape by the time we go there.”
