Waun welcome back Ospreys

After a successful event held last month for U15 and U16 players, Andy Williams, Ospreys Player Development Officer for the Swansea District will return to Waunarlwydd RFC next week to host a player recruitment night to help attract new players for he younger age-grades.

More than 50 players attended the session in July where Williams was assisted by the new-look Swansea RFC coaching team of Jason Hyatt and Damian Karauna as they put the youngsters through their paces.

Next Wednesday, 17th August, will see the focus change to the U11, U12, U12 and U14 players, with Duncan Jones, Ben John and Kristian Phillips helping Williams to deliver skills sessions as well as an introduction to rugby session for newcomers having their first taste of rugby with Waun.

WRU/Ospreys Regional Community Manager, Ben Rose commented:

“We are delighted to be able to go back to Waunarlwydd after such a successful event there last month. Events like this offer real value to the club we are visiting, as it allows the coaches and players present to interact with the youngsters, who get so much more out of the visit than if it was just about Ospreys players turning up and signing a few autographs.

“In turn, it helps to develop robust working relationships between the clubs and the Ospreys, which in the long term will be of benefit to everybody. We are totally committed to developing local talent, and initiatives such as these sessions allow us to have a positive impact on players right at the very start of the development pathway.”
