Tondu welcome the Ospreys

Tondu RFC was the latest club to receive a visit from the Ospreys when a trio of players took part in a development afternoon this week.

Richard Kelly, Emyr Williams and Jack Jones spent two hours at the club, leading some hands on coaching sessions and passing tips to the young players.

The event was led by Tom Cole, Player Development Officer for Bridgend Distrct, with the joint goal of providing a fun afternoon for local youngsters during the summer holidays and also, increasing the number of players at the club.

The focus for the sessions was on developing individual skills, with Kelly and Jones working on the lineout with the forwards, while Williams and Cole concentrated on the backs.

Speaking after taking part at the event, Richard Kelly said:

“It was good fun and really good to be so closely involved in the coaching sessions. To be able to work with local clubs in this way and to really help the rugby community in Ospreylia is brilliant, it’s something we all enjoy doing whenever we can.”

Tom Cole added:

“It was a great afternoon, the Tondu players really enjoyed working with Richard, Jack and Emyr, and took on board the advice they were giving them.

“Visits like this always mean a lot to the people at the local club, and as was the case with this one, it meant that the club were able to attract new players off the back of it.”
