Tondu, Aberavon Green Stars and Abercrave

St Helen's hosted the Finals Day for the Under-16 Ospreys Cup.

On a fantastic day of rugby in the sunshine, there were three games played with sides from all corners of Ospreylia in action.

First up was the Bowl Final which saw Tondu beat South Gower 53-0. Tondu were clinical in their finishing, but South Gower showed great spirit to put up a good fight and kept going until the end

The Plate Final was a much closer affair, with Aberavon Green Stars gaining the narrowest of wins over Gorseinon, 29 - 28 despite being down to 14 men for two-thirds of the game. Green Stars forward Tom Owens (Ospreys U16s) scored a try in last few minutes with Kieran Mattocks converting to put them in front. Gorseinon had an injury time 45m penalty to win the game which dropped short.

In the final game of the day, the Cup Final,  Abercrave beat Bonymaen 12 - 9 thanks to a try in the dying minutes to win the game, Matthew Jenkins (Ospreys U16s back row) finishing off an outstanding break by Josh Evans (Fly-Half Ospreys U16s) to seal the victory.

Ospreys Player Development Officer, Gary Clement, said:

"It was an excellent day's rugby, with three excellent matches between sides from right across Ospreylia.

"The Ospreys Cup is an important competition for us, bringing together clubs from around the region in a competitive environment while allowing us as development coaches to cast our eye over potential future Ospreys. It was good to see so many young players enjoying the environment, it was a hugely successful event and we are grateful to Swansea RFC for hosting the day."
