Three Ospreys in Wales team to face Ireland

Three Ospreys have been named in Warren Gatland's squad to face Ireland on Saturday.

Gareth Thomas and Adam Beard represents the forwards, whilst George North represents the backs for the Ospreys.

There is one change to the starting XV that played England at Twickenham on 10 February, with Sam Costelow returning for Wales at fly half.

Among the replacements back-row Mackenzie Martin is in line to win his first senior cap this weekend and would become the 1,200th Wales men’s international.

Tight-head prop Dillon Lewis would be making his first appearance of this Championship if called on from the bench.

Gatland said: “We are excited to go out to Dublin and test ourselves against one of the leading sides in world rugby. It’s a challenge we are relishing.

“We’ve made steps in the last couple of games and now it’s about building on that, learning from those experiences and taking that into this weekend.

“It’s about continuing to work hard, looking for accuracy in our performance across 80 minutes and also keeping our discipline.”

Mae Prif Hyfforddwr Cymru Warren Gatland wedi enwi ei dîm i wynebu Iwerddon yn nhrydedd rownd Pencampwriaeth Chwe Gwlad Guinness 2024, yn Stadiwm Aviva, Dulyn ddydd Sadwrn y 24ain o Chwefror (2.15 yn fyw ar S4C ac ITV).

Mae un newid o’r pymtheg ddechreuodd y gêm yn erbyn Lloegr yn Nhwickenham ar y 10fed o Chwefror – gyda Sam Costelow yn dychwelyd i safle’r maswr.

Ymhlith yr eilyddion, mae’r chwaraewr rheng ôl Mackenzie Martin wedi ei gynnwys – ac os caiff ei alw o’r fainc, ef fydd y 1,200fed chwaraewr i gynrychioli Cymru ar y llwyfan rhyngwladol.

Mae’r prop pen tynn profiadol Dillon Lewis wedi ei ddewis ar y fainc hefyd ac yn debygol o chwarae ei ran am y tro cyntaf ym Mhencampwriaeth eleni os y caiff ei alw i’r maes.

Dywedodd Prif Hyfforddwr Cymru Warren Gatland: “Ry’n ni’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr at fynd i Ddulyn er mwyn profi’n hunain yn erbyn un o dimau gorau’r byd. Bydd hi’n her a hanner – ond mae’r garfan yn awchu i wynebu’r her honno.

“Ry’n ni wedi cymryd camau pendant i’r cyfeiriad cywir yn ystod yr wythnosau diwethaf – ac mae’n rhaid i ni ddysgu o brofiadau’r ddwy gêm gyntaf ac adeiladu ar hynny y penwythnos hwn.

“Mae’n rhaid i ni barhau i weithio’n galed, bod yn glinigol a chywir yn ein chwarae, cadw’n disgyblaeth a pherfformio am yr 80 munud.”
