After two failed attempts the match between the Young Ospreys under 18's and a Regional District Select took place at Banwen RFC on Monday 15th. The match was used as a means of identifying late developers for the Reebok Development fixtures.
These three fixtures wil be played throughout January, February and March. For some players it will be an opportunity to establish themselves early for next season's under 18 squad, while others will be using it as a stepping stone to under 20 rugby. The players identified are a mixed bunch with some having previously been involved with Regional rugby while for others it will be their first venture. The players concerned will join the squad for training at 7pm on Monday (22nd) night at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport. The players are:Kristian Whiteman (Afan Nedd), Rhys Roberts (Bridgend), Jamie Murphy (Bridgend), Grant Lougher (Afan Nedd), Mathew Riddler (Swansea), Craig Price (Afan Nedd), Bill Carey (Bridgend), Derek Trederay (Bridgend), Matthew Saker (Afan Nedd) and Adrian Edwards (Bridgend). The match that took place at Banwen was certainly worthwhile with the Regional Select giving a brave performance to go in 3 nil down at the interval. However, after the break the Young Ospreys took control and Matthew Jarvis (pictured) added two conversions (1st half penalty) to tries by No 8 Andrew Bale and wing Richard Randall. Final Score 17 points to nil.
