Tandy frustrated by “embarrassing” performance

Head Coach calls for positive reaction when Blues come to the Liberty in two weeks after watching Ospreys give away “too many easy points” in Edinburgh.

Clearly frustrated at what he had witnessed earlier in the evening, he pulled no punches in his post-match review. Reflecting honestly on the performance an hour or so after the final whistle, Tandy said:

“It’s not a happy dressing room, it’s not a happy group, and it’s definitely not a happy coaching team. We gave away too many easy points, cheap tries that Edinburgh didn’t have to work for. The performance, particularly in the first half, wasn’t up to our standard.

“You can’t concede sloppy tries like we did and have any hope of winning games at this level, it’s as clear as that. We’re extremely disappointed, there is no way of dressing up this performance. It’s pretty embarrassing if I’m honest. It doesn’t represent what we stand for and it’s just not good enough.

“We fought back in the second half but I’m not going to draw too much from that as it’s the very least you'd expect from any team, to keep going for 80 minutes. Overall, it was a hugely disappointing performance with too many mistakes across the pitch, defensively and offensively, and we’ve got a lot of work to be done off the back of this performance.

“We’ve got a two week break before Cardiff Blues come to the Liberty for a Welsh derby so we’ve got to use that time wisely. f you look at where we are and what we need to achieve now, it’s pretty clear that we’ll need to win five of our last six, if not all six. It’s going to be tough, but it’s doable if we get back to playing at the standard we expect of an Ospreys team.

“The Blues game is massive for us now. Welsh derbies always have some real edge to them, but this is huge in terms of our aspirations for the coming season. We have to win that one, and beyond that, there is a lot of rugby still to be played.

“As disappointed, frustrated, as we are as a group tonight, we’ve got to dust ourselves down and get on with the job of putting this right.”
