Take on the Kiwis!

How would your team like to take on the Kiwis? Or how about a fellow Celtic side?

Well now you can!

Papatoe Rugby Club, from South Auckland New Zealand will embark on a 16-night tour of France, England and Wales in April next.  Including in the once in a lifetime trip, the side will also play in the Ospreys Challenge!

The Kiwi club is the 5th largest club in the Auckland Rugby union setup, with over 750 junior and senior members.  The club has forged strong links to their community whilst providing the opportunity for improved mental and physical health to all those that participate in the wonderful sport of rugby.

As well as the visit of the Southern Hemisphere side, three Irish sides will also be in attendance, giving sides the chance to go toe to toe with our Celtic cousins. For both touring teams and local sides aged from U7s to U16s, the Ospreys Challenge provides clubs an opportunity to take on teams they never normally would.

Aside from the rugby, Papatoe Rugby Club are on a mission to gain more cultural awareness by visiting schools, sporting events and sightseeing. As well as the New-Zealanders learning a thing or two from our local Welsh clubs, the visit of the team will give sides in Ospreylia a chance to share their experiences and learn all about rugby on the other side of the world from our friends down under.

As well as a fantastic weekend of rugby and on-field fun with thrilling games and displays of great sportsmanship, there will be plenty to do off the pitch too. The tournament also provides onsite catering and refreshments, entertainment, a fun zone and the chance to meet Ozzie the Osprey and Ospreys players.

The 2020 festival will be held from Friday 24th April to Monday 27th April in Bridgend, with Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th being the actual playing days. Accommodated at Parkdean Resorts Trecco Bay (U7s – U16s, older teams will be based at local hotels), arrival for teams will be the Friday evening before two full days of rugby action.

Teams above U12s will compete for trophies in the Cup and Bowl Competition and all the teams that take part will receive Ospreys medals, awarded to them by the Ospreys players, in team presentation ceremonies.

After the pool stages on Saturday, on Sunday it’s Finals Day where your team will take part in knockout matches to see who the winner of the Ospreys Challenge is. What better way is there to end your side’s rugby season?
