Surf's up for the Ospreys

Ospreys players took to the LC's Boardrider on Monday for some alternative exercise ahead of the weekend's trip to Wembley to face Saracens in the Heineken Cup.

Having hung up his international boots on the weekend, it was straight back to work as usual for Shane Williams on Monday morning, as he joined the rest of the Ospreys squad at the LC in Swansea to brush up on his surfing technique on the leisure attraction’s in-door surf machine.

Speaking about their morning splashing about he said:

“It was good fun watching the boys trying to master the indoor surf machine, some were better than others and I witnessed some great wipe-outs!

“There’s definitely a technique to it and it requires good balance. It was good to have the pros on hand to help us out.”

The Ospreys squad were taught the basics in balance and positioning, and then put through their paces by the expert Boardrider team. The team are made up of eight carefully selected surfing specialists, who are trained in introducing novices to basic surfing techniques, while showing the more advanced surfers new skills to master on the board.

Nic Beggs, General Manager at the LC said:

“It was great to having the Ospreys squad come along to try out the Boardrider. The team seemed to enjoy the new form of exercise and being put through their paces by or surfing experts.

As the cold weather sets in, we’re expecting more visits to the indoor surf machine. I can imagine that the warmth of the waterpark is far more appealing than facing the cold Welsh waters this winter.”
