Mefin Davies led the Ospreys into victory against former club Leicester Tigers in his second game as captain of the region, and the veteran hooker says that the LV= Cup campaign is gaining momentum as the youngsters in the team grow in confidence.
Speaking after the game, Mefin said:
“We’re over the moon with that result. We’ve been looking to build some momentum after we came very close to beating Newcastle last weekend. Youngsters need a bit of confidence when they play, and that showed tonight.
“We had a good start, and it’s good that we’ve seen a lot of youngsters today playing some better rugby than they did last week.
“Managing the game is critical and identifying what the situation is. We knew that it would be heavy rain and we addressed that situation. We played to our strengths basically, made sure the backs got a good platform and we saw some fantastic tries tonight.
“We’ve got that momentum. We need to get as many points in this competition as possible. We got a losing bonus point last week. At the time we were doom and gloom at not winning, but to have a bonus point today, with the win, these points all add up and it’s important we keep growing as a team and gain in confidence.”
