Shinty champions meet the Ospreys!

Ronaldo of the Glen met his match recently when team members of RWE sponsored Kingussie Shinty Club came face-to-face with Ospreys players before the PRO12 game in Glasgow.

After a brief discussion about rugby tactics, changing room talk turned to shinty with 2015 Camanchd Cup winners Kingussie explaining to Ospreys players that it's not just a rugby that inspires passion and a hard fought battle.

As a momento of the historic moment, Kingussie's all-time record goal scorer Ronald Ross MBE, better known as Ronaldo of the Glens, together with team Captain James Maclean, accepted a signed Ospreys team shirt from James King, Aaron Jarvis and Justin Tipuric, to take back to The Dell.  In return, a signed Kingussie shirt and a DVD of the 2015 cup final win made the return journey to South Wales.

The meeting was arranged by the region’s long-term commercial partners, RWE, who sponsored the front of the Ospreys shirt for nine years from 2005 and continue to support the region’s community activity as well as sponsoring Kingussie. The shinty stars enjoyed an evening of hospitality at Scotstoun, as a guest of RWE and the Ospreys.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Kingussie is the world’s most successful sporting team of all time, while Ross is the only man to have ever scored more than 1000 goals in the sport.
