Shane Takes Top Bbc Award

Ospreys winger Shane Williams rounded off his Testimonial Year in style last night when he was handed the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year Award.

SHANE TAKES TOP BBC AWARD

The Welsh public voted for Williams ahead of Olympic gold medallist Nicole Cooke and Joe Calzaghe, undisputed world boxing champion.
The award comes just two weeks after he became the first Welsh player to win the IRB World Player of the Year, and rounds off a hat-trick of high profile awards during 2008 after he also won the RBS Six Nations Player of the Tournament earlier this year. During the Six Nations, he set a new Welsh record for international tries, overtaking Gareth Thomas in the all time list. His try in the final autumn international against Australia took his record to an incredible 44 tries in 63 games.
Speaking after winning his award, Shane said:
"It's been crazy over the last 12 months and a dream come true to be honest. It really is getting better and better and this tops it off, really.I came here as one of the nominees and I certainly didn't think for one second I was going to win it.Even I voted for Joe Calzaghe."
Everybody at the Ospreys would like to congratulate Shane on this latest achievement.
