Season Ticket Sales up by 10%

With a fortnight to go until Leeds Carnegie arrive at the Liberty Stadium for the first fixture of the new season, Ospreys chiefs have expressed their delight at the "fantastic" response they have had to the season ticket packages that were introduced for the 2009/10 campaign.

The Liberty Stadium Ticket Office has been busy ringing up sales ahead of the new season, as Ospreys fans have looked to take advantage of the recession busting offers introduced this summer, with season-ticket numbers to date already showing an impressive 10 per cent increase on the final figure for last season.

A number of new initiatives have proven popular with supporters, including the Introduce-A-Friend scheme which offers existing season-ticket holders substantial discounts (up to 100 per cent), when they introduce new season-ticket holders, while children can receive theirs completely free when purchased in conjunction with an adult season-ticket for the Family Stand.

Ospreys Managing Director, Roger Blyth, said:

“We are delighted to see that we have already recorded an increase of 10 per cent on season ticket holders compared to the final figure last year. The fantastic response is a clear indication that we got it right when setting prices for the new season and it’s great that our supporters have responded positively to the new initiatives we introduced.

“It’s always a difficult balancing act when setting costs, even more so this year given the current difficult economic crisis, which we are all to aware continues to have an enormous impact on supporters and their families right across Ospreylia. We realise that times are tough and that being a fan of any sporting team is an expensive business, so we had to find the right balance that would allow our supporters to continue following the Ospreys. We believe that the family friendly packages we introduced this year, with the emphasis on making a day-out at the Liberty Stadium an affordable experience for the whole family, as well as initiatives such as the Introduce-A-Friend scheme, certainly do that, and with numbers up 10 per cent, it seems that our fans agree.

“Clearly, there is a financial impact and risk involved to the business when reducing season-ticket prices as we have done this year, but it was a sacrifice that the Directors and management were unanimous over. We want as many supporters as possible attending matches at the Liberty Stadium and we believe, rightly, that to achieve this, we had to reward loyal season-ticket holders with the best value prices we possibly could during such difficult times. With numbers up considerably on last year, and still two weeks to go until the season gets underway, the supporters clearly agree with us.

“It’s an exciting time to be an Ospreys fan with the new season almost upon us. There’s a real buzz in the camp and optimism is high ahead of our first game against Leeds on August 22nd, and we are all looking forward to what promises to be an exciting season.”

Ryan Jones also voiced his approval of season ticket numbers, commenting:

“It’s brilliant to hear that season ticket numbers are up for the new season. We really do appreciate the magnificent support that we get week in, week out at the Ospreys, and we realise that we can’t take it for granted. To be told today that despite all the economic problems at the moment the numbers have risen is tremendous and it really gives the lads a boost in training. The management deserve a pat on the back for pulling together the new offers, and the supporters deserve a really big thank you from us for continuing to get behind us in numbers. Hopefully, we can reward them with some exciting performances during the forthcoming season.”

Season Tickets remain on sale at the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office, with adult prices starting at just £180.
