Riverside Hardware Brewery Field to host Welsh

The Riverside Hardware Brewery Field will host its first Welsh regional derby in almost eight years when the Ospreys return to face Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday 27th January, and tickets for the momentous occasion go on sale on Tuesday.

The Welsh rivals go head to head in the third game of this year’s LV= Cup, with a bumper crowd expected for the match which kicks off at 7.05pm.

It’s the fourth time that the Ospreys have taken a game to the home of Bridgend Ravens, after memorable wins over English giants Leicester Tigers and London Wasps last season, before 2011 Heineken Cup finalists Northampton Saints brought a full strength team down in October that was pushed all the way by a youthful Ospreys team on another fantastic night for the region.

The last Welsh regional derby hosted at the Brewery Field was back on Friday 7th May 2004, when the Celtic Warriors defeated Cardiff Blues 30-26 in the Magners League.

Ospreys Chief Operations Officer, Andrew Hore said that the region were delighted to be returning to Bridgend:

“Our relationship with the people of Bridgend is growing stronger and stronger all the time and we’re delighted to be able to take another big game to the town. After hosting successful games against some of the biggest names in English rugby, this time it’s a far more local affair against one of our Welsh rivals which should add to the occasion and make for a big crowd with supporters keen to enjoy the derby atmosphere.

“Ospreys Rugby has made a long term commitment to the Bridgend district, in rugby terms through our relationships with the local schools and clubs and the District set-up, and in a business sense through our excellent relationship with Bridgend County Borough Council and the many businesses, local and national, who see the value of close links with the region. We also fought long and hard to ensure Bridgend RFC retained its place in the Welsh Premiership next season after all its efforts to win promotion in 2011.

“Bridgend and its surrounding areas remains crucially important to our long terms plans and it will be fantastic to see the local community getting behind the Ospreys at the Brewery Field once again.”
