Remember, remember, the fourth of November

Swansea Council is throwing tradition on the bonfire this year with a fireworks extravaganza a night earlier than usual on Friday 4th November, avoiding a clash with the big Ospreys v Scarlets the clash the following day.

The annual Sparks in the Darks event held at St Helen's will take place 24 hours before Guy Fawkes Night due to the big South Wales Evening Post Cup clash between the Ospreys and the Scarlets scheduled for the Liberty Stadium on Saturday 5th November at 6.30pm, with the biggest crowd of the season anticipated.

Swansea Council decided to change the day of the event because of the congestion that might be caused by the combination of Sparks in the Dark and a capacity crowd for the rugby at the same time, allowing families in the region to enjoy both big events.

Frances Jenkins, the Council's Strategic Manager for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said:

"For many years the annual fireworks display has been held at St Helen's Rugby Ground on November 5, regardless of what day of the week it happened to fall on.

"But this year the decision has been made to bring the fireworks display forward by a day to avoid any conflict with the rugby's evening kick-off.

"This makes sense both events are likely to attract large amounts of people – most of whom will be travelling by car."

Gates for Sparks in the Dark open at 5.30pm with entertainment starting at 6pm. The Wave and Swansea Sound will be on stage with live music, special guests and entertainment throughout the night.

The evening will finish with a spectacular fireworks display choreographed to music at 7.30pm.

Advanced tickets are priced at £15 for families (2 adults and up to 3 children), £4.50 standard, £3.50 concessions and £3 Passport to Leisure. Tickets purchased on the night are £20 for families (2 adults and up to 3 children), £5.50 standard, £4.50 concessions and £3.50 Passport to Leisure. Accompanied Under 3s go free.
