Ospreys vs Emirates Lions: Stat Attack

The Ospreys host the Lions this week in the BKT URC, with both teams heading into the game needing the points. The fixture has produced some exciting games that have been full of tries, what better game to look into the numbers for this week's Stat Attack.

The Lions have won each of their previous two BKT URC matches against the Ospreys, however, the only previous encounter between these two sides in Swansea was decided by just a single-point (27-28 in September 2022).

Ospreys have been comeback kings so far this season in the BKT URC. Four of our six wins this season have come in games which they didn’t lead at half-time, no team has won more games in such a manner this term; three of those comeback wins have come at home.

Ospreys are unbeaten across their last two BKT URC home games against South African opposition and conceded just one try in each of those recent two games.

The Lions have won each of their last BKT URC URC matches by margins of 24+ points, scoring 12 tries across those two games and conceding just three in return.

When it comes to turnovers, no side has made more turnover-winning tackles than Ospreys in this season’s URC (32, also Bulls & Benetton), while only Glasgow Warriors (72) have won more turnovers overall than the Lions this term.

Continuing on the theme of turnovers, Rhys Davies has won the joint-most turnovers of any player in this season’s BKT URC with 11 and is also one of just three players to have hit 200+ attacking rucks in the league this term.

One of the standout players for the Emirates Lions this season has been Morne van den Berg, he has provided seven try assists in this season’s BKT URC, more than any other player, and has also scored four tries himself, with his combined total of 11 tries and assists being the joint-most of any player in the league this term, alongside Glasgow’s Jonny Matthews.
