Ospreys team up with Spire Cardiff Hospital

The Ospreys today revealed details of a new commercial partnership that sees Spire Cardiff Hospital become the region’s official medical partner.

Under the terms of the agreement, Spire will provide support to the region’s medical team and will be the preferred supplier of medical treatment to the playing squad. In addition, they have committed to working together with the Ospreys to investigate a number of commercial opportunities in the region.

Spire Cardiff Hospital has a 31-year history of delivering excellent clinical care to the local and extended community, with patients travelling from both West and Mid-Wales to experience private healthcare. As part of the deal, the region’s onfield medical kit will display the Spire logo.

Nicola Amery, Hospital Director, said that Spire Cardiff Hospital is delighted to have been chosen as the preferred provider of medical services for Ospreys Rugby, commenting:

“As a hospital we have extensive experience of treating elite athletes and therefore we are confident that the experience the players will receive from our clinical team will be second to none. There is a continual strategy within Spire Cardiff Hospital, to drive innovation and excellence, through updating service offerings, therefore allowing all our patients the opportunity to access a wide range of services on site.

“As a hospital we are very excited to have this opportunity to support one of the key teams in Wales. Although to us, it doesn’t matter whether you are an elite athlete or an everyday person the care you receive will be the same.”

Chris Towers, Head Physiotherapist at the Ospreys, added:

“Providing a rapid and accurate diagnosis for our injured players is fundamental to everything we do here at the Ospreys. Through our partnership with Spire Cardiff Hospital we have extremely efficient access to diagnostic imaging and reporting as well as rapid access to a wide range of specialists through their Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence.

“This allows us to make early decisions regarding the best medical management of our players and helps us provide players with the accurate prognosis and rehab plan they need to allow them to return to play well as quickly and safely as possible.”

Ospreys Commercial Manager, Yarnie Guthrie, welcomed Spire Cardiff Hospital to the region’s expanding family of commercial partners, saying:

“We are delighted to be able to make this announcement which will see our medical team working extremely closely with Spire Cardiff Hospital to ensure the very best medical care for our players, 24/7. Healthcare and the welfare of the squad is one of our biggest commitments as a business, so to be able to form a long-term partnership with Spire will prove a huge assistance to Chris and his colleagues when it comes to diagnosis, treatment and rehab.

“The commitment we have received from Spire to work together on and off the field is another vote of confidence in what we are attempting to build here at the Liberty Stadium.”
