Director of Rugby, Scott Johnson, commented:

"Since the first day of pre-season, the focus has been on building week by week with a view to getting up to speed in time for the first week of the Heineken Cup. We know the difficulties in reintegrating players during this period but we believe that we have the experience of handling it and putting the building blocks in correctly to give us a solid foundation to go into Europe.

“The intensity of the last 40 minutes against the Scarlets was the perfect last part of the build up, and we believe that we’re in a good place going into this game. We realise that we have to raise our game another notch or two, but we are where we’d want to be.

The quality of teams in our group mean that whoever goes through will have done it the hard way and earned their place in the last eight. We’ve been drawn with three quality sides and one thing is for sure; whichever side tops this group and progresses to the last eight will be in a pretty good place.

“To be successful in the Heineken Cup you need a good team performance, not a series of individual performances. Reputations, and success, are built as a collective unit, and that is the message the players will take onto the pitch with them.”
