Ospreys Coach Jonathan Humphreys commented:

“It’s going to be the next step up in our preparation for September 3rd. There are a lot of boys who haven’t seen any game time yet so this will the first hit-up for a number of them. We had some pleasing stuff to take away from Tuesday’s game against the Regional Select XV, and we’ll be looking to get something similar out of this game and hopefully get closer to where we want to be.

“It may only be pre-season but we know that Leeds will be very physical, like all Premiership teams tend to be. They are further down the track than us and will undoubtedly provide a very tough challenge, which is exactly what we want at this stage. We have three weeks to go until the start of the season and this game will help us get a step closer to being ready with Gloucester still to come in a week’s time at the Liberty.

“It’s a cliché, but at this stage of our preparations it really is all about the performance. The boys will go out there and want to win, they’ll be giving it everything as they always do, but as a coaching group you have to take a different, more long-term view. It’s the performance that matters to us right now, as above all else we want to get things right and make sure we are firing correctly in time to face Ulster.”
