Ospreys swoop for Vodacom Rugby Senior Manager

The Ospreys are excited to announce the appointment of Liam Dobell as the new Head of Communications and Content of the regional rugby franchise.

The appointment by Paul Whapham, Corporate Brand Director, is the latest step in an exciting journey and enhancement in the Ospreys off-field operation.

Liam will be responsible for the execution of the Ospreys communications and media functions. As well as tasked with leading significant growth in numbers across all our social media channels by producing innovative and engaging content that enable us to reach new supporters.

Liam Dobell arrives with a wealth of experience in sports communication. He has held senior positions at Vodacom over the past 6 years and been instrumental in leading the brand forward across their social media and digital platforms.

As a South African he understands and shares our passion for all aspects of rugby and his experience in global tournaments brings with him a holistic, worldly view into our much-loved sport.

During the last two years, Liam has led the implementation and management of all rugby related communications, for Vodacom’s core rugby relationships, namely the Vodacom Bulls, Vodacom Super Rugby, and Vodacom URC. Liam’s role has included developing strategy, concept, and creative content, with a focus on digital innovation.

Over the past few weeks, Liam played a significant role in delivering Vodacom’s communication strategy, witnessing an exciting victory in Dublin as the Vodacom Bulls progressed through the URC knock out stages to a South African final in Cape Town against the DHL Stormers.

He brings a reputation of forging close and real partnerships with the media, broadcasters, and competition organisers with an ability to deliver long-term sustainable growth and engagement.

Liam will move to Wales with his family, starting his role on the 1st July and is a series of new appointments at the Ospreys, as they invest in the off field side of the business to drive sustainable success.
