Ospreys support Great Rugby Cycle 2022

Ospreys Rugby are pleased to be supporting an event in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. The third Great Rugby Cycle is cycling round Wales from Friday (September 16), covering over 700 miles in eight days. The group will be here at the Swansea.com Stadium around midday on Friday, September 16 around 1pm.

The Great Rugby Cycle is the concept created by Stuart Thom, an ex-Melrose RFC player and friend of Doddie’s, who to date has raised over £200K for the foundation.

The Inaugural Great Rugby Cycle 2019 covered 1133 miles in March 2019 from John O’Groats to Land’s End, the second Great Rugby Cycle 2021 covered over 1000 miles in 10 days round Ireland.

The Great Rugby Cycle 2022 will cover over 700 miles in clockwise direction around Wales in eight days, taking in some of the finest scenery (& Hills) Wales has to offer. The peloton will be joined along the route by some rugby legends helping to raise awareness and funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities. He earned 61 caps for Scotland during a successful playing career, represented the British and Irish Lions on their successful tour to South Africa in 1997, and won championships with his two club sides, Melrose, and Newcastle Falcons. A talented, committed, and athletic lock forward, Doddie is now facing his biggest challenge. In June 2017, the Scot revealed he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers and seek ways to further research into this, as yet incurable disease.

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was launched in November 2017 and its aims are simple; to raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures and to support this affected by this devastating disease.

There are three ways that people can assist with the fund raising:
