Ospreys stars backing Kids Camps

With just five weeks until the first of this year's Ospreys Kids Camps gets underway at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, some of the region's top names have thrown their weight behind the camps, encouraging youngsters to sign up for a fantastic rugby experience.

The Ospreys Community Rugby Department in conjunction with sponsors RWE npower renewables, are running a total of six courses during the forthcoming Easter holidays at three venues across the region, aimed at boys and girls in the U6-U11 age groups, covering tag or contact rugby dependent on the relevant age-grade.

The new look courses have undergone a revamp for 2011, providing an even more exciting experience, and skipper Alun Wyn Jones says that they are a ‘must’ for all young Ospreys.

“The Kids Camps have always been a really popular part of the Ospreys calendar” he said.

“I’ve attended lots of them over the years, and it’s always a fantastic experience for the young boys and girls. To be able to enjoy first-rate coaching from Ospreys staff and to develop their game in the company of other rugby mad children is brilliant, they are a must for any young fan. I wish that these kind of camps has been going when I was that age. The players will be making appearances at the various camps again, and we’re all looking forward to it.”

There will be four two-day courses taking place at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, along with two special one-day courses, one at Bridgend College’s Pencoed Campus, the other at Bishopston Leisure Centre. All children signing up will get the opportunity to boost their rugby skills with help of the Ospreys Community Coaches, as well as making friends with fellow rugby fans in a fun and safe environment.

In addition to specialist coaching, all participants will receive a goodie bag full of Ospreys gifts, as well as a special visit from members of the Ospreys squad who will answer questions, sign autographs and join in all the fun.

Another senior Osprey who has been a regular at the various Kids Camps over the years is Shane Williams, and he said that all the players are looking forward to meeting up with their young fans at the 2011 Easter Camps:

“It’s going to be great fun for any rugby mad kid. They are always a great experience, for the players who attend as well as the children. To see the faces of boys and girls who just love rugby and being in an Ospreys environment makes everybody feel good, and I’m sure that this year it will be even better than ever.”
