The Ospreys will be looking for revenge when they take on Mumbles Cricket Club in the second charity 20/20 match between the two sides next month.
A side representing the region, including the likes of Sean Holley, Marty Holah, James Hook, Filo Tiatia, Ian Evans and Jonathan Thomas, were defeated by 41 runs in last summer’s inaugural fixture, and will be looking to put the record straight when the two teams resume rivalries on Friday 6th August.
The match will once again take place at Mumbles’ picturesque Marespool Ground at Plunch Lane, with the first over to be bowled at 4.00pm, weather permitting. Admission will be just £2 with U16’s getting in for free, and there will also be a barbecue and bar facility on the evening.
Last year’s fixture was played out on a glorious sunny evening, with hundreds turning out to watch the action, raising more than £1,500 for LATCH, the Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity. The charity to benefit from funds raised at this summer’s fixture will be announced next week.
Ospreys Head Coach, Sean Holley, said:
“We are all looking forward to taking on Mumbles Cricket Club once again, and hopefully improving on last summer’s result, while raising some more money for an excellent cause. Last year’s event was a great success and tremendous fun for everyone who was there, so as well as wanting revenge we want to make it an even greater success, with more money raised for the chosen charity.
“We are always keen to give something back to the local community wherever and whenever possible, and this is a fantastic example of how we can really help to make a difference while having some fun as a squad. Fingers crossed now for some good weather and another great night, rest assured we’ll be getting in some practice over the next few weeks to ensure a better showing than last time!”
Mumbles Cricket Club’s history extends over 100 years and today it fields three League XIs on Saturday’s, a Midweek League XI, and seven Junior League sides. In 2008, the club was awarded with the prestigious ECB Clubmark accreditation. The Marespool ground has Minor Counties status after hosting one-day cup fixtures for Wales.
Further details of the day, including confirmation of the full Ospreys XI, will be brought to you at www.ospreysrugby.com as soon as possible.
