It was a strong Ospreys performance as the squad scored six tries and secured an important bonus point away from home at Rodney Parade. It was a back and forth affair, but the boys matched the Dragons and were able to pull away in the final ten minutes in a full squad effort, securing 5 league points.
The Dragons got off to a strong start and were able to get the first try of the game in the opening few minutes. A couple of penalties in succession saw them with a lineout on the Ospreys five metre line and Elliot Dee was able to get the ball down after the maul. Tinus De Beer converted, Dragons 7 - 0 Ospreys.
After the home side’s score, the Ospreys’ foothold in the game slowly began to grow, enjoying a good spell of possession in Dragons territory.
TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! A penalty gave the Ospreys a lineout on the Dragons five and it was the Ospreys turn to go the maul, with Ross coming away with the score. Dan Eds nailed the conversion from wide left, Dragons 7 - 7 Ospreys.
The aerial battle was shaping up in the Ospreys favour early on, with Kieran Hardy and Dan Eds kicking well, and the back three challenging if not winning every chase.
WHAT A TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! Liam Wright stole the ball in midfield and broke through the middle. He was brought down, but Lalakai Foketi was in support and played a kick through that Andrea Pirlo would’ve been proud of. Keelan Giles recovered it on the left touchline and stepped two players near the tryline to finish. Dragons 7 - 12 Ospreys.
On the stroke of half time, Dragons were able to go to the maul again, won a penalty try in the process the Ospreys were reduced to 14 men.
HALF TIME – DRAGONS 14, OSPREYS 12.
Despite the one man disadvantage, the boys started the second half sharply and began to apply some pressure on the home side, enjoying a lengthy spell in the the Dragons 22.
TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! The pack made the pressure count, going to the maul and powering their way over for the try. Sam Parry took the spoils, with with Dan Eds converting. Dragons 14 - 19 Ospreys.
The Dragons answered back almost instantly through the maul again, which was proving to be a powerful weapon for both sides. De Beer converted, Dragons 21-19 Ospreys.
TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! Straight after the Dragons score, the boys won a penalty and went for the corner. Both packs were clearly going maul for maul, as Sam Parry was able to score the 6th maul try of the game. Dan Eds converted from the right touchline, Dragons 21 - 26 Ospreys.
It was hard to take a breath in the second half, as the lead switched again with just over 15 minutes played. This time a break down the middle saw Tuitavuki finish near the sticks. despite a superb last ditch tackle from Rhys Davies. De Beer converted, Dragons 28 - 26 Ospreys.
MORGAN MORSE WHAT A TURNVOVER! With their backs against the wall, the pack stopped the maul and the Dragons went through the carries. Up stepped Morsey with a huge steal at the breakdown and the Ospreys were able to clear their lines.
TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! After a strong kick chase up the field from Player of the Match Tom Rogers, and Keiran Williams, the Dragons looked to clear their lines under pressure, but the boys ran the ball right back. A few phases of carrying from the forwards ensured Morgan Morris could dot down to restore the Ospreys lead, Dragons 28 - 31 Ospreys.
TRY FOR THE OSPREYS! It was a tight closing ten, with a rally of aerial work as both sides tested one another under the high ball. Ospreys eventually earned a penalty, leading to a lineout in the host's 22. After a whole squad effort pushed the maul to the Dragons line, the pack once again went through the phases, Morgan Morris spotting the tiniest of gaps to dab the ball down for the match-winning try. Dragons 28 - 38 Ospreys.
Dragons were able to secure a final penalty, which they kicked to bring the game to a close.
