Ospreys offer ‘senior’ rugby camp

Following on from the hugely successful relaunch of the Ospreys Rugby Camps earlier this year, Ospreys in the Community have confirmed details of a brand new initiative aimed at older children.

The first ever ‘senior’ camp for 13-17 year olds will be held at Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Friday 30th October, with participants experiencing nutrition and strength and conditioning workshops, as well as position specific and tactical and technical coaching.

Running between 8.30 and midday, the course will give young rugby players a real insight into what it takes to become a pro rugby player with their region as Ospreys in the Community coaches share the same techniques used by the senior regional counterparts.

The day will round off a busy week at the Ospreys’ training base, with the three day half-term camp for children aged 6-12 taking place Monday to Wednesday.

Over 180 children enjoyed the sold out summer camps where they learned new rugby skills and made new friends in a non-pressurised environment, as well as meeting Ospreys players, and both the half-term courses later this month are expected to sell out.

Paul Whapham of Ospreys in the Community, said:

“We’ve been blown away by the response to our relaunched camps, with the two in the summer all proving hugely popular.

“It was always our intention to take the concept a step further for teenagers, who will be further down the line in terms of their rugby ability and will benefit from more detailed, technical sessions suited to their own skillsets.

“Over the course of the week we’ll see hundreds of young rugby players at Llandarcy, and it’ll be fantastic to see so much engagement between the community and the region, with children of all ages and all abilities enjoying themselves with a rugby ball in hand.”

All courses are operated jointly by Ospreys in the Community and NPTC Group.

The one-day ‘senior’ camp on Friday 30th October runs from 8.30am-midday and costs £20 per child.

The three-day kids camp runs from Monday 26th – Wednesday 28th October and costs £30 per day or £70 for all three.
