Ospreys left “disappointed” despite win

Man of the Match Dan Evans has revealed the sense of disappointment in the dressing room following the New Year’s Day win over Newport Gwent Dragons at the Liberty Stadium.

Evans scored the second Ospreys try during a dominant first half performance that saw the hosts go in at half-time with a 12-0 lead. However, they failed to score in frustrating second half and found themselves facing a late Dragons onslaught before securing a 12-7 win.

“We’re happy to get the victory but a little bit disappointed in honesty” said the official Guinness Man of the Match.

“We left a couple of tries out there, and perhaps another bonus point. We’ll take the victory but there’s plenty to work on.

“It was basic errors. We were getting into their half, into their 22, and we were spilling the ball. There’s a lot that we need to pick up on next week before we play Leinster.”

Solid defence in the closing stages ensured the Ospreys were able to hold on to claim a second win of the holiday period and a fifth consecutive PRO12 victory and Evans emphasised the importance of building on the win when Leinster, 13-0 victors against Connacht later in the day, visit the Liberty next weekend. He said:

“Our defence held strong at the end. There was a little bit of relief as we needed to get the victory but like I said, disappointment at the end in how we got the victory.

“We need to keep this run going now. Hopefully the momentum is building. It’s getting tight in the table now, from the top reaching right down to mid table. We’re happy to get the win but we have to keep that momentum going against Leinster.

“Every game is a big game for us now.”
