Ospreys learn Guinness PRO12 schedule

The Ospreys will enjoy home comforts on the opening weekend of the 2016/17 Guinness PRO12 season, welcoming Zebre to the Liberty Stadium in Round 1.

  • Zebre visit Liberty Stadium on Friday 2nd September (7.35pm)
  • Round 2 sees Ospreys travel to Galway to face champions Connacht
  • First Welsh derby of season sees Cardiff Blues visit Liberty Stadium on Friday 7th October
  • Scarlets visit Liberty Stadium on 27th December with return fixture on the final day of the season

The Italians will visit Ospreylia on Friday 2nd September (KO 7.35pm), before making the difficult trip to Galway the following weekend to face champions Connacht at the Sportsground on Saturday 10th September at 7.35pm.

Round 3 sees Italian opposition at the Liberty once again, Benetton Treviso the visitors on Saturday 17th September in the 7.35pm slot, before the Ospreys then face back to back games in Ireland.

First, in Round 4, the Ospreys head to the RDS in Dublin to face Leinster on Friday 23rd September (7.35pm KO) and then travel to Belfast to play Ulster at Kingspan Stadium on Saturday 1st October (6.30pm).

The following two weekends of PRO12 action see back-to-back derby fixtures for all Irish and Welsh teams in the league.

The Ospreys host Cardiff Blues on Friday 7th October at 7.35pm and then, after a two-week break for European action, Newport Gwent Dragons come to the Liberty on Saturday 29th October for a 3.00pm kick-off.

 

In Round 8 the Ospreys make their final trip to Ireland in the regular season, playing Munster at Irish Independent Park on Friday 4th November (7.35pm KO).

Following two weeks of Anglo-Welsh Cup action the Ospreys then head to Scotland for the first time, where they meet Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun on Friday 25th November (7.35pm KO). A week later Edinburgh are the opposition at the Liberty on Friday 2nd December (7.35pm KO), before another two week break for Europe, the PRO12 returning for the Christmas derbies.

Tuesday 27th December is the date for the big Ospreys v Scarlets clash in Swansea (3.00pm KO) while the Dragons are the first opposition of 2017, hosting the Ospreys at Rodney Parade at 5.05pm.

While the rest of the Round 13 fixtures at the start of January have been confirmed, we are waiting to find out where the Swans are drawn in FA Cup Round 3 before the time and day of the home game versus Connacht can be finalised.

Meanwhile, the days and times for Rounds 14-19 are still to be confirmed, but see the Ospreys scheduled to play Zebre away (W/E of 10th February), Munster home (W/E of 17th February) Glasgow home (W/E of 24th February), Edinburgh away (W/E of 3rd March) and Treviso away following the conclusion of the Six Nations (W/E of 24th March).

Round 20 sees a big weekend of all derby action for Irish and Welsh participants, the Ospreys away to the Blues on Saturday 15th April (2.45pm KO).

The final home game sees Ulster come to the Liberty for Round 21 (W/E of 28th April) before the 2016/17 season comes to an exciting finale with six derby matches scheduled for the final day, all kicking off at the same time, with the Ospreys making the short trip east to Parc y Scartets on Saturday 6th May at 5.15pm.

The play-offs will then take place on consecutive weekends at the end of May, and the season will climax on Saturday, 27 May 2017 with the Guinness PRO12 Final – the venue, city and ticket information for this flagship event will be announced in due course.
