The annual Cwmtawe 7s have long been a major date in the calendar for rugby clubs in Ospreylia, and thanks to the Community Rugby team at the region schools in the Neath Port Talbot area will have a chance to compete in their own version this week.
Schools from across the District have been invited to participate in the Ospreys Schools Cwmtawe tournament, which will run throughout the week over four consecutive days from Tuesday to Friday at Cwmtawe Comprehensive School, with a different academic year competing each day.
In total there are 37 teams registered for the tournament, with Year 9 competing on Tuesday, Year 10 on Wednesday, Year 7 on Thursday and Year 8 on Friday.
There will be a Plate and Cup competition operating each day, with visits from Ospres players each day to hand out trophies and medals.
Andrew Thomas, Player Development Officer for the Afan Nedd District, said:
“It’s going to be a great week for young players in the District. We’ve been delighted with the response from schools in the area and to have 37 teams entered across the four academic years is great.
“Each day will provide the youngsters with competitive rugby with silverware at stake, all under the Ospreys umbrella with player visits at the end of each day, helping to cement relationship between the region and the local community.”
