Ospreys players will be in Bridgend on Wednesday for the second of three pre-season 'Volunteers Days' being held across the region.
The ‘Volunteers Days’ are the idea of the squad, who wanted to be able to do something different during the summer months that would allow them to give back to the local Ospreylian communities, and this week’s activity sees members of the squad visiting Y Bont, a purpose built family centre in Bridgend that provides care and support to children with a disability through high quality play, support and medical services.
Among the players attending on Wednesday are Ian Evans, Ian Gough, Dan Biggar, Mefin Davies, Tom Smith, Cai Griffiths, Aaron Jarvis and Tom Prydie, and they will spend the afternoon assisting the team at Y Bont to provide the children with activities to occupy them as part of the summer holiday play scheme.
Speaking about the visit, Mefin Davies commented:
“As a father, visits like this one always leave a special mark on me, but like the rest of the squad, I’m looking forward to attending Y Bont and helping the staff there, many of whom are volunteers, to make a difference to the lives of these young children. It’s about doing the right thing for Ospreylia, which is what we’ll be trying to do throughout the season.”
His team-mate, Dan Biggar added:
“As professional sportsmen we are in a privileged position so it’s important that we use this position to help others. In this case, not only will our visit allow us to spend time with the children at Y Bont and maybe put a smile on their faces, it also helps to raise the profile of such a worthwhile cause.”
Last week saw the Ospreys visit Swn Y Mor Residential Care Home in Port Talbot where a group including the likes of Joe Bearman, Duncan Jones, Sonny Parker, James Goode, Kristian Phillips and Ashley Beck spent time with residents, serving afternoon tea and taking them for a walk along Aberavon sea-front.
There is one remaining ‘Volunteers Day’ scheduled for Wednesday 3rd August, when players are available to assist community projects or initiatives based within the region. Supporters can nominate suitable charities, community projects or initiatives, or a similar good cause, by emailing promotions@swwmedia.co.uk.
