Ospreys give back to Ospreylia!

Good causes across the region could be about to get a helping hand from members of the Ospreys squad in the coming weeks thanks to a new initiative announced today.

The Ospreys have teamed up with the South Wales Evening Post to launch a series of ‘Volunteer Days’ that will see players carrying out charitable work in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend during pre-season.

The players are available to assist community projects or initiatives based within the region, and will be looking to turn their hands to activities such as painting, landscaping, fence-building – or indeed anything that they can do together as a group.

Ospreys and Wales prop Duncan Jones said:

“We’re all really looking forward to getting out into the community and doing something that will really make a difference to people in Ospreylia. It’s going to be a bit of fun for the boys to work together as well, something that will help with team bonding, and importantly, it’s a way of the boys saying thank you for the great support we get. Most of the squad, like me, are local boys born and bred in the region, so to be able to do something like this is fantastic. Hopefully, we'll see some of the people we help at the Liberty Stadium this season."

His team-mate, Dan Biggar added:

“As professional rugby players we all realise that we are in a privileged position, so it’s good that we are able to give something back to our local community like this. There is fantastic work being done every day the length and breadth of the region, so if we can highlight that fact, make a difference to a charity or community group, and maybe inspire more people to volunteer, then everyone benefits.”

The first ‘volunteer day’ is scheduled for Wednesday 20th July, with two more taking place on the following Wednesday’s (27th July and 3rd August), with one each in Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea. The squad will be split into groups of between 10 and 15, so all nominated activities should be suitable for such a number.
