Ospreys first to win MoD award

The Ospreys have become the first Welsh region to be awarded a Defence Employers Recognition Bronze Award by the Ministry of Defence.

The award was presented by Captain Paul Rumming from the Royal Welsh, along with Shenkin the Royal Welsh Mascot, to Paul Whapham, Foundation Manager, on the pitch prior to Saturday’s Guinness PRO12 win over Ulster at the Liberty Stadium.

The Defence Employers Recognition scheme encourages employers to support the armed forces and to encourage others to do the same.

The Ospreys join just 1,200 organisations across the whole of the UK who have been recognised by the scheme, which demonstrates a companies commitment to the armed forces and shows support for its service personnel, veterans and reservists.

Paul Whapham, Foundation Manager, Ospreys in the Community, remarked on the award:

“We are delighted and immensely proud to have earned the Bronze Award, and in the coming months we will be working hard to achieve the Silver and then Gold Awards.

“As an organisation we are dedicated to supporting the men and women of the armed forces. Two of our current staff are veterans, and over the years we have seen several serving personnel representing the Ospreys on the field.”
