Ospreys extend partnership with Sports and wellbeing analytics

The Ospreys are proud to announce the extension of its partnership with sports technology firm Sports & Wellbeing Analytics in an exciting, innovative and groundbreaking multi-year deal.

Sports & Wellbeing Analytics are the company behind the state-of-the-art technology for the Protecht mouthguard that puts player welfare and safety at the heart of matchday and training sessions.

The Ospreys and SWA were the leaders in trialing and adopting Protecht’s unique sensor technology and data to identify and report all head impacts received by players.

The partnership will focus on the Ospreys high performance environment and will also see a new initiative to co-create and develop a product designed to improve player safety.

The new extended partnership will see a high-tech collaboration to produce a system to monitor and enhance a player’s individual training programme and to manage the training load of every player in the Ospreys squad and Academy Programme.

The inclusion of Ospreys Academy players will allow coaches and staff to use data to tailor the personal training programmes and provide an invaluable insight and database into players from a young age.

The new partnership also provides a commitment to build a platform to bring match and performance data alive for supporters to help them understand the intensity and the physicality of professional rugby.

Corin Palmer, the Ospreys Performance Director, said:

“Player welfare is paramount at the Ospreys and we are delighted to extend our relationship with Sports & Wellbeing Analytics.

“The Ospreys were the first rugby team to adopt the Protecht mouthguard sensor system and it has proved invaluable for staff and our medical team to assess player’s contact and training loads.

“We look forward to building on our close relationship to allow us to monitor and better prepare our players for games.”

Alan Williams, Commercial Director at Sports & Wellbeing Analytics, said:

“We’re really excited to be working with the Ospreys as one of the first elite professional clubs to adopt Protecht and to build on our already close relationship.”
