The Ospreys Community Rugby Development team has once again linked up with the City and County of Swansea's 'Active Swansea Team' to run a series of special coaching sessions aimed at introducing young children to the game of rugby.
Aimed at 5 – 7 yr old children, the weekly courses are being held in community leisure centres right across the city and run for a period of ten weeks with Ospreys development coaches delivering a specially tailored programme to children aged 5-7, introducing them to the basic FUNdamentals of the game via TAG rugby (non-contact).
Participants are taught the basics of evasion, handing and tagging before they are signposted to clubs to continue their involvement in the game, providing an ongoing supply line of players to local clubs in the Swansea area.
This is the third year that this partnership has been used to introduce new rugby players to the game, with the number if courses running growing each year. At the end of the course children get the opportunity to meet some of the Ospreys squad, who attend the last session to present the children with certificates of attendance.

“I’m delighted to be working in partnership with Active Swansea once for another series of these 'Baby Osprey' sessions. These courses will compliment the work of the WRU/Ospreys development staff by providing 5-7year olds with an ideal start for playing rugby. We plan to work with all of Swansea’s rugby clubs to ensure there are exit routes from these courses directly into long term opportunities for rugby participation within the community”
Courses start the week commencing 20th September and will run for 10 weeks. The cost of the course is £30 per child with a discount for passport to leisure cardholders.
