Ospreys 49 Gloucester 19

The Ospreys kicked off their Anglo-Welsh campaign with a resounding victory against the strongly fancied Gloucester outfit, fully dispelling the nightmare of Ulster.

Shane Williams opened up the scoring with a blazing run in the 2nd minute, sprinting through to touchdown putting the hosts in the lead. 5 -0

First Point for Gloucester came with a penalty from Ludovic Mercier making it  5 -3.

Ospreys won the line out on the 5 metre line, the pack drove the ball forward ending in a skilful try from Barry Williams. Gavin Henson converted giving Ospreys a lead 12 -3.

Going into the 20th minute and the atmosphere was electric with the home crowd cheering their players along.

Having a lot to prove we saw a powerful performance from the Ospreys players in particular Nikki Walker playing well making ground.

Gavin Henson was on form with yet another penalty goal increasing Ospreys lead to 18 -6

42 minute saw some confrontation on the Gloucester try line as Ospreys nearly scored their 3rd try in the first half.

Ospreys looked lively with Gavin Henson ending the first half with yet another penalty goal giving us a good platform to rise in the second half.

Ludovic Mercier started the scoring in the second half for Gloucester with a penalty goal.

The 45th Minute saw attacking action from our own with Sonny Parker showing excellent speed and agility, outwitting the Gloucester defence to score our 3rd try in the game, increasing our lead to 28 -9,  with fantastic support from his fellow players.

Gloucester had a 4th penalty goal from Ludovic Mercier in the 50th minute.

Adam Jones replaces Paul James

Sonny Parker capitalised on a gap in the 57th minute and sprinted clear to touchdown followed by a conversion from Gavin Henson. Making the score 35 -19

James Merriman replaced Adam Balding and Peter Richards replaced Rory Lawson.

We saw Olivier Azam replace Mefin Davies for Gloucester and Jonathan Thomas replaced Steve Tandy as a blood replacement.

Gloucester rallied around but found chances few and far between, Ospreys were on a rise.

64th minute saw Steve Tandy coming back on, with Jonathan Thomas subsequently staying on to replace to replace Ryan Jones from a leg injury.

Justin Marshall broke away and scored under the posts, leaving the Gloucester defence behind. Gavin Henson scored yet again another skilful conversion, increasing the Ospreys lead to 42 -19.

Gavin Henson added another try and conversion for good measure. Gloucester couldn’t do anything to stop the Ospreys flow as they dominated territory and possession.

Gloucester’s hopes had taken a blow as the hosts showed good drive and determination with a fine performance, continuing this seasons unbeaten home run with a winning score of 49 -19, topping a vintage performance.
