NPT take derby day honours

Neath Port Talbot College completed the double over Gower College Swansea in the Ospreylian derby at Hensol on Wednesday.

Gower had the better of the two teams in the first half but it was Neath Port Talbot who came out on top as the final whistle sounded, edging the tightly fought encounter 18-13.

Ryan Jones and Connor Edgecumbe grabbed tries for Gower in a dominant first half for the team from Swansea. Neither were converted but Liam Popham was able to add a three-pointer. Neath Port Talbot’s first half points came through a Jack Anderson try which was duly converted by Luke Price.

The tide seemed to turn in the second half with Neath Port Talbot taking control of the scoreboard. With Gower reduced to fourteen men, their opponents took the initiative and capitalised on their man advantage. Callum Davies crossed the whitewash for the visitors and Price added another two pointer.

A gap started to open up between the Ospreylian rivals as Price was on hand to extend his team’s lead with a well-struck penalty. Neath Port Talbot held out for victory as they climbed a few more points clear of their nearest rivals in the WRU College League Table.
