No Concerns Over Shane's Shoulder

Ospreys Physio Chris Towers today moved to quell media speculation surrounding the fitness of Shane Williams ahead of the new season.

Williams is currently on his summer break following an extended season that saw him travel to South Africa as part of a British & Irish Lions squad that only returned to the UK earlier this month, and isn't due to report back for pre-season training until Monday 10th August.

As Towers outlines, Shane underwent a routine procedure last week that isn't expected to have an impact on his season. He explained:

"I can confirm that Shane underwent surgery to his shoulder on Tuesday 14th July. It was a routine procedure that had been pre-planned to coincide with his return from the Lions tour. By the time Shane reports for pre-season training in August, he will already be four weeks post op, and apart from not being able to take contact and lift heavy upper body weights initially, there will be little impact on his pre-season preparations."

"A further four to six weeks should see him back to full training and available for selection, along with his Lions team-mates as per schedule."
