The college rugby season got underway on Wednesday and two of the regions teams did battle at Llandarcy.
Neath Port Talbot College overcame the challenge of their nearest rivals Gower College Swansea beating them 12-8 in what was a tightly fought contest. Both team’s had new line-ups and were playing together for the first time.
Having led at the half-time break, Gower failed to add to their eight points as Neath scrapped their way to triumph. Gower dominated up front and stood strong in defence but Neath’s backs managed to dazzle as they finally managed to break their opposition down.
In the first half, Chris Forshaw crossed the whitewash for Gower following a powerful driving maul but Neath grabbed a five-pointer of their own. A Sam Evans penalty was the difference at the break as Gower led.
The second half let Gower down as they conceded a converted try, despite their solid defending, and failed to grab a point of their own.
