NatWest Ospreys Cup U16’s Finals

Loughor, Pencoed, Morriston and Bridgend Athletic all claimed victories at Llandarcy on Sunday.

On Sunday under the blue skies at Llandarcy, eight teams took to the field in the NatWest Ospreys Cup U16’s Finals day. After 75 games in the competition, it was down to Gowerton, Loughor, Tondu, Pencoed, Morriston, Ystradgynlais, Bridgend Athletic and Bryncoch Under 16’s to fight it out for the silverware in the four finals.

FT: Gowerton 10 – 26 Loughor
First up was the Shield Final where Gowerton took on Loughor. It was a tight game where the two teams equalled each other for much of the match. That was until a length of the field run to score put Loughor out ahead, and eventually secured them the victory.

FT: Tondu 22 – 27 Pencoed
After some emphatic wins and not losing a game in the group stages of the competition, Pencoed faced off against a similarly strong Tondu side in the Cup Final. Pencoed U16’s took the spoils in the first half, securing a commanding lead at half time. Tondu hit back in the second half to bring themselves into contention but they couldn’t overpower Pencoed, who held onto the title they also won last year.

FT: Morriston 27 – 22 Ystradgynlais
The Plate Final couldn’t have been a tighter match if it tried, with one minute of the match remaining Morriston and Ystradgynlais were tied at 22 all. Just as it looked like the two teams would be sharing the silverware, there was a race upfield and with some impressive finishing from the Morriston winger, they clinched the victory.

FT: Bridgend Athletic 31 – 5 Bryncoch
The final game of the day saw Bridgend Athletic meet Bryncoch in the Bowl Final. It was a hard fought match but the excellent defence from the team from Bridgend made all the difference. Despite sustained pressure, Bryncoch only made it over the try line once allowing a convincing victory for the Ath. The Natwest Ospreys Cup Under 15’s Finals Day will be held at Llandarcy on Sunday 21st May.
