Montpellier Hérault: Stat Attack

With a big game in the Heineken Champions Cup just around the corner, we looked at the numbers around Ospreys and Montpellier Herault.

This will be just the second ever Champions Cup meeting between Ospreys and Montpellier Hérault Rugby and their first ever on Welsh soil, with Ospreys coming out victors the last time they met in December.

The two teams have been some of the best tackling outfits in the tournament so far. Only two teams have a better tackle success rate than Montpellier Hérault Rugby (89.9%) and Ospreys (89.8%) in this season’s Champions Cup, while Ospreys are also one of just three teams to have successfully converted 100% of their place kicks this term (6/6).

Zach Mercer has been at the forefront of most of Montpellier’s performances this year, the Englishman has made at least six more carries than any other player in this season’s Champions Cup (39) and has also registered the joint-most running metres of any player in the competition this term with 238 metres.

Alongside Mercer,  Clément Doumenc has been lighting up the stats sheet. He has made the most tackles (34) and missed just one for a 97% success rate.

As a team, Montpellier have made the most metres in contact of any side with 282. A notable stat to say the least.

We know it's a late kick-off, but we need as many fans as possible in the stadium to cheer on the boys as they look to go two from two and fight for Heineken Champions Cup qualification.
