Following the success of the first joint seminar between the Ospreys Referee Society and the Ospreys Coach Development Department held at Dunvant RFC recently, the next event has now been confirmed.
Attendees at the Dunvant event were impressed with the contribution of Duncan Jones, who was able to pass on his top-level expertise in the scrum. This time, the Ospreys will be represented by former All Black Marty Holah, renowned as one of the greatest exponents of the tackle area, who will share his many years of experience at the very highest end of the game.
There will also be a presentation by WRU international referee James Jones, providing an insight into the other side of the tackle area.
The event is being organised by Tony Thomas, Coach Development Officer for the Ospreys, and he is expecting a good response. He said:
βThe overwhelming response to the first session was very positive and I am sure that this event will also be very beneficial to all who attend. These joint events hosted by the Coach Development Department and the Referee Society provide a fascinating insight and are mutually beneficial.
βIn order for any coach to maximise his potential, it is vital that he not only understands the laws but also how they are refereed. If we can also create a situation in which referees can better understand the viewpoints of players and coaches there can only be significant benefit for the game as a whole.
βIt will be well worth making every effort to be there if you are an active referee or coach in the region.β
