Lloyd and Smith lead coaching seminar

The Ospreys Coach Development team ran the latest of its regular Coaching Seminars at Dunvant Rugby Club recently.

The clinic, on ‘The Tackle Contest Area’ was delivered by Ospreys player and current age-grade coach Andy Lloyd, ably assisted by his team-mate Tom Smith. The atrocious weather conditions prevented the planned outdoor demonstrations but Andy and Tom made excellent use of the indoor facilities provided. The classroom delivery was highly informative and generated a considerable amount of healthy discussion amongst the coaches present. Some of Dunvant’s Under-15 players were present and we are grateful to them for their assistance in taking part in the demonstrations.

Despite the disadvantages of being unable to replicate playing conditions on the pitch, the comments from the coaches were all very positive. Our thanks once more to Dunvant RFC for their continued support for our efforts to provide Continuous Professional Development to coaches in Ospreylia.

Ospreys Elite Performance Director, Andrew Hore, commented:

“For us to create sustained success at the region, we need to ensure that we develop the best rugby coaches at all levels, as better coaches equals better players, it’s as simple as that. Through these regular seminars, our Coach Development Team are reaching a wide range of active club coaches and passing on their knowledge and experience, along with the guest coaches who are delivering the seminars. Ultimately, it is all about development from within, as we want to ensure that within the Ospreys region we have a wide pool of quality Welsh coaches coming through that can step up to the next level.”

The next event will take place at Llandarcy at 6.30 on Wednesday 9th December. Gruff Rees, Ospreys Skills Coach will lead a session on ‘The Kicking Game’

All coaches are invited to attend. For further information please contact Tony Thomas, Ospreys Coach Development Officer, at tthomas@wru.co.uk
