KINGS OF LEON TO PLAY SWANSEA THIS SUMMER

The Liberty Stadium hosts one of the biggest rock bands in the world this summer, when the multiple Platinum selling, multiple Grammy and BRIT award winning Kings of Leon descend on Wales on July 2

.

The Swansea date has been added to a handful of UK dates for the Followill family band from Tennessee, before they embark on a massive tour of the US in the summer.

This summer's tour follows the release of Kings of Leon's Grammy nominated sixth album Mechanical Bull, which entered the UK charts at Number 1, their fourth album in a row to achieve this feat.

Amongst the band’s numerous accolades are the Grammy awards for Record of the YearBest Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and Best Rock Song, along with several NME Awards and BRITS for Best International Band and Best International Album. They have headlined the world's biggest festivals including Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Coachella, and this summer headline Sunday night at the Isle of Wight festival.

The concert is produced by Orchard, Wales’ largest independent music promoter. Orchard director Pablo Janczur said:

“This is a real coup for Swansea and has been made possible through the great support of the Liberty Stadium, where we successfully hosted JLS a few years back. Kings of Leon are one of the top live rock acts in the world, and so we expect demand for tickets to be heavy. This will be a busy summer for us as a company, with Elvis Costello at the Brangwyn Hall, Paul Weller in Cardiff Castle, Tom Jones and Jessie J in north Wales and Burt Bacharach and Laura Mvula at Brecon Jazz. Kings of Leon is a great way to launch the summer.”

Cllr. Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said:

“This news is a major coup for the Liberty Stadium and Swansea as a whole because The Kings of Leon are one of the world’s most popular bands.  It again shows confidence in Swansea as a city that’s more than capable of staging events of the highest quality.

“Their performance here will further put Swansea on the map and strengthen our status as a leading city of culture. It’ll be one of the highlights of a terrific summer in Swansea that’s packed full of events catering for people of all ages and tastes.”

Orchard won the Regional Promoter of the Year Award in the 2013 UK Live Music Business Awards for their work on some 200 concerts and festivals, including Ponty’s Big Weekend and Brecon Jazz. This summer they are bringing Elvis Costello to the Brangwyn Hall, and Paul Weller to Cardiff Castle. Last year the company shared the Production Partnership of the Year prize with Conwy Council in the 2013 National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) Awards for their Access All Eirias concert in North Wales, which this summer hosts Tom Jones.
