Judgement Day 2023

Judgement Day returns for 2023

The biggest family event in the rugby calendar returns to Principality Stadium after a three-year hiatus on Saturday the 22nd, April 2023.

The regional rugby extravaganza will see Scarlets take on Dragons RFC before Cardiff Rugby battle it out against the Ospreys in the final weekend of BKT United Rugby Championship action.

U16s Concessions tickets will be available from £10, and for the first time, an over 65s Concession is being introduced with tickets starting at £15.  Adult tickets from £25, which means a family of four can enjoy a day of back-to-back, high octane, regional rugby for £70.

All Season Ticket holders will get access to tickets from on 14th November with tickets available for Public Sale from 14th December 2022, just in time for Christmas.  Season tickets holders for the 'home' teams this year (Ospreys and Dragons RFC) will receive their ticket free of charge as part of their season ticket package but have the option to purchase additional tickets for friends and family.

For Ospreys, Scarlets, Cardiff Rugby and Dragons RFC,  the stakes are high, as these games form part of the regional pools for the prestigious BKT URC 'Welsh Shield'. The winner of the Welsh Shield will be crowned regional champions with a shield trophy presentation at the end of the season and earn an automatic place in the Heineken Champions Cup 2023/24.

Dai Young, Director of Rugby, Cardiff Rugby, said: “Judgement Day is always a key date in the Welsh rugby calendar but something I have never been involved in, so on a personal level it is a game I am really looking forward to.”

“There is not a lot between the four Welsh clubs, we are all capable of beating each other and that makes for an exciting day, especially when you add into the mix the Welsh Shield, European qualification and the fact it is the last day of the regular season.”

“Hopefully there will be a big crowd in attendance as the event returns for the first-time post Covid-19 and they will be treated to a great day of rugby.”

Anthony Cole-Johnson, Commercial Director at Ospreys said: “After a 3-year absence, we are delighted to be returning to the Principality Stadium for Judgment Day. This event is a momentous one as it puts a global spotlight on Welsh rugby and this year will be no different.”

“We are focused on delivering a great matchday experience and putting on a great day out for all rugby fans. Ospreys will be looking to defend the BKT URC Welsh Shield when we take on Cardiff Rugby in what is sure to be a memorable final round to the season.”

Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel said: “It’s fantastic that Judgement Day is back as part of Welsh rugby’s calendar. We had a couple of high-scoring matches against the Dragons last season and with so many familiar faces in their group, it is a game we are all looking forward to.”

“The Principality Stadium is an amazing venue and for a number of our players it will be the first time they will have played there. It promises to be a wonderful occasion and an exciting finish to the regular URC season.”

Dai Flanagan, Head Coach of Dragons RFC, said: “It’s great news that Judgement Day is returning to the capital. It’s a special day out for rugby fans across Wales and gives the regular season a fantastic final round for us all to look forward to.

“The opportunity to play at Principality Stadium is a special occasion for any rugby player and we are looking forward to facing Scarlets and our fans having a memorable day of rugby to enjoy in Cardiff.”

Martin Anayi, CEO, BKT United Rugby Championship, said: “We’re thrilled to see Judgement Day returning to the calendar as it is one of the headline events of our season.”

“The inception of Judgement Day was an innovation when it debuted almost 10 years ago and it is a great way to showcase regional rugby to a broader base of supporters. Placing it on the final day of the BKT URC season will add more drama and jeopardy to the occasion and we hope that will provide a real draw for fans.”

“It is with a huge amount of excitement and expectation that we welcome Judgement Day back to Principality Stadium, our (pre-Covid) annual celebration of all that is good about the United Rugby Championship and professional rugby in Wales,” said WRU CEO.

“Attendances at this event have grown steadily since the inaugural double-header in Cardiff in 2013, right up until the last occasion in Cardiff in 2019 when over 50,000 fans united in their support of our regional sides.”

“There is something uniquely special about Wales’ stars returning to their teams of origin and facing each other under the famous Principality Stadium roof, standing shoulder to shoulder with their club-mates and it never fails to capture the public’s imagination.”
