In the past week the Ospreys Coach Education Department held yet another coaching seminar at Dunvant RFC for Level 1 and Level 2 Coaches in the Ospreys Region. Ospreys and Wales stars James Hook and Dan Biggar were in attendance and led the kicking orientated session, which was devoted to kicking techniques. The evening was sponsored by Worthington's, proud sponsors of the Ospreys and we would like to express our appreciation for their support.

Following a comprehensive presentation on kicking coaching points by Coach Development Officer Tony Thomas, James and Dan demonstrated the skills required for a whole range of kicking techniques including kick-offs, 'up and unders', touch finders and goal kicks on the field.

Dan Biggar commented "Kicking in front of all these coaches is the most pressure I have ever been under; knowing each of these coaches is analysing your every move, and are not afraid to ask you about the key points of your techniques, it's great to interact with these coaches on this basis, but I would much rather be in front of a crowd of 75,000!"

The practical session was followed by a very lively Question and Answer session both on kicking and other aspects of the game, to which both player fielded questions with experience and knowledge beyond their years.

Ospreys Coach Development Officer, Tony Thomas said "The evening was a great success and we were delighted with the feedback from the coaches. We are very grateful to James and Dan for their time and expertise. We would also like to thank Dunvant Rugby Club for once again hosting the event and those players who took part in the demonstrations"

Geoff Wheel, Area Account Manager for Coors Brewers said: "Worthington's proud sponsors and supporters of the Ospreys and 'grass roots rugby' are delighted to support this excellent coaching initiative. By arranging and funding a buffet and a glass of Worthington's after the session we feel adds value to the evening and helps the Q & A session"

A similar seminar will be held at Kenfig Hill RFC on Wenesday 17th December where provisionally Gavin Henson and Kristian Phillips will be in attendance, to demonstrate and answer questions on their kicking techniques. Please see the photo gallery for more images of the evening.

We at the Ospreys are committed to improving the support we provide for coaches so please make an effort to attend future events and encourage your colleagues to join us as well.

A number of further events will take place and details will shortly appear on this website of events in January.
