Nicky Smith

"It’s something I didn’t think I’d achieve."

He’s set to make his 150th Ospreys appearance if he comes off the bench on Saturday evening, so we caught up with Nicky Smith to hear his views.

“Obviously it’s something I didn’t think I’d achieve so to get that milestone and hopefully a lot more years in front of me is a proud moment. I’m just looking forward to hopefully get the opportunity out there on the field this weekend.

“Winning my first cap with the Ospreys has to be one of the most memorable moments for me. Dragons away in the LV Cup. It was definitely a proud moment and having all my family there is something I’ll never forget.

“I did try football at first but thought I may have been a bit too chubby and then started kicking people so my father pulled me to one side and said I think we better try rugby, then fell in love with it and the rest is history.

“My personal goals this season is just to keep playing and try to keep fit. It’s great at the minute with such strong competition between myself, Gareth and Rhodri so to try and keep putting my hand up to get those opportunities more and put the shirt on the better.

“We know the Stormers are going to be a tough and physical. They’re a good outfit from 1-15. We know we have to put our best foot forward and I’m sure with the talent we have in our areas we can come out with a win.”
